The U.S. government plans to start negotiations with Kenya to formulate a free-trade deal which could be a template for its dealings with the rest of Africa. The U.S. merchandise trade deficit with Kenya stood at $317 million in 2019. While it fell 7.8% year over year in the three months to Jan. 31 the administration will still be keen to boost exports as well as cut tariffs to reduce import costs for American consumers. U.S. export lines facing high tariffs in Kenya include uncoated paperboard and kraft paper with a 14.6% duty and wheat with tariffs of 8.8%. On the import side to the U....
